Polly Chavis was the lucky winner of the cat basket donated by Dr. Shawn Duffy.  Dr. Duffy put together a fantastic basket with items such as a cat bed, grooming tools, treats, toys, and a scratching pad.  The basket was valued at approximately $150.  Congratulations to Polly for holding the winning ticket.  I'm sure her kitties were happy with their new things.  Thanks to Dr. Duffy for her generosity in donating the prize.

When an elderly Paradise man passed away about a year ago, and left behind his cats, TOPCats took over, and continued to feed and care for them. On April 9, 2010, TOPCats volunteer, Leanne Zinc was feeding the cats, when an aggravated neighbor approached her, saying that he had trapped and dumped two of the cats.

Pilots fly Cats and Dogs to Safety

As this Web Site's creator and maintainer, I am always proud of the work that Tamara and others are doing and happy to be able to help in their efforts. Here's another story that hit close to me. My brother Pierre and a group of other pilots recently flew over forty dogs and cats from almost certain death in Georgia to a "no kill" shelter in Florida. I'm including my brother's account and some links you can follow for more information. Hope this makes your day like it did mine.

...I don't quite know where to start because it was a very emotional experience, just the enormity of the airlift, the fellowship and camaraderie, putting faces to names, but mainly the whole objective of so many innocent lives saved.

One of the burly, 6 foot something line guys who helped unload my airplane, became teary-eyed and offered God's blessings more than once. When I told him that there were four more airplanes coming, all loaded with animals, he froze, awed by the idea of 40 something little critters saved.

I can't recall another time about anything that I've done that has brought this much satisfaction and emotional reward! Hard to put into words.

Y'know, they also need temporary foster parents for animals making long trips, where half a dozen pilots are used to each do 300-400 mile legs. They need the animal housed for a day or two 'til the next pilot can come, either because of weather or work schedules. So go to www.pilotsnpaws.org and add your name

We were given forms, signed at both ends by the rescue teams, so we can get an expense deduction from the IRS.

Best,

Judy Rogers Memorial Voucher Program
Written by Tamara Lynch
Monday, 25 May 2009 12:48
UPDATE:  From December 2008 to September 2009, TOPCats spayed 79 females and neutered 44 males under the Judy Rogers Memorial Voucher Program.  We hope this will make an impact on unwanted litters and kittens going to the animal shelter.  TOPCats has started the Judy Rogers Memorial Voucher Program for low-income residents on the Ridge.  Applications are available at Companions Animal Hospital, Colyer Vet Service, Animal Hospital on the Ridge, Paradise Veterinary Clinic, Clark Road Animal Hospital, Reid's Feed and Seed, and the Senior Center.  Vouchers covering the cost of spay/neuter and rabies vaccine will be mailed out to qualifying residents. Judy was a Paradise resident who loved all cats.  She lost a hard-fought battle with cancer in January of 2008.  She chose to help TOPCats, and we hope to honor her memory through this program. This program has been temporarily put on hold.  We hope to start up again at the beginning of next year.

Tam's TOPCats Tidbits

I have some good news regarding our newsletters (what newsletter?  Yes, I'm way behind on that, too).  Barbara and Mikkie Westbie have been working on a program for a new format.  They will be taking over this project.  I am so thankful to have their help!  We hope to have a new newsletter out soon.

TOPCats closed out 2009 with a total of 630 cats spayed or neutered.  This count includes Trap/Neuter/Returned cats and pets done under the Judy Roger Voucher Memorial Program.  We hope we see a reduction in unwanted litters this spring.
